Are We Really Progressing With The Times?

By Nia Kerr on July 23, 2016

Hello all,

Normally my posts consist of helpful tidbits to navigate through college but with all of the recent events that have taken place in our country I am at a loss for words. It is a shame that in the year 2016, African American people are being targeted and killed simply because of the color of their skin.

Racism is an issue that we as a country have faced for many years; but it seems to be swept under the rug because it is seen as uncomfortable to many. The simple truth is that we as a country will never progress until we face the issues that make us “uncomfortable;” comfort was never an option for those who were treated like they were not to be valued.

It is unfortunate that both the lives of civilians as well as the lives of police officers in America have to be taken in order for the message to get through that our country needs some serious reforms. The world for sure is not a perfect place, but it definitely needs to be a world that is bearable for us to live in. People need to take a stand against these injustices and not just wave it off as someone else’s issue to deal with; this affects us all.
